Founded in 1909, Kingswood-Oxford is a private co-educational day school serving 600 students, grades 6-12, on its 29–acre campus in West Hartford, Connecticut.  The school is engaging in a campus consolidation based on an academic facility master plan.  As part of this consolidation effort the “Chase • Tallwood Math Science Technology Center” is 3 story, 27,925 square foot building that will accommodate students from grades 9-12.

The program includes lab/classrooms, general classrooms, and departmental workspace for both the science and math departments. In addition, a roof terrace will provide space for outdoor scientific work (weather stations, telescopes, etc.) as well as a green house and a small green roof. The goal for this project is a building that not only provides state-of-the-art classroom and laboratory space, but also demonstrates strategies for sustainable design, which can be incorporated into the curriculum. Natural lighting and environmentally friendly materials will contribute to productive learning environments and an overall energy efficient design.  The project direction is to apply for LEED Silver Certification.
