SOLUTION - Covered arcades along the inside perimeter of the Center bring a more traditional scholarly feeling to the campus, and wrap a restful, ceremonial green. This grassy commons is ideal for al fresco mingling, and even has a small amphitheater. Each program within the Center is linked by the arcades, and each has a distinct skylight announcing its entry and bringing spatial exuberance to the interior. The facades turned toward the commons are textured-brick “screens” to reinforce the sense of enclosure. At the same time, deftly placed windows and openings present strong reminders of the functions within.
