CRITIQUE - “This project
marked a transition from the firm’s earlier interest
in the grid as an ordering element to the pursuit of
spaces and forms with a symbolic quality. The center
wraps around three sides of a tapered quadrangle, with
a continuous colonnade and a planned clock tower at
the open end, much like the Piazza San Marco in Venice
– a not inappropriate symbol since the Center,
like San Marco, serves as the artistic and cultural
center of its community. Inside though there exist spaces
that have an almost ritualistic quality.”

Architecture, University of Minnesota
