DESIGN
-The new addition is connected to the existing
by means of a glass-walled lobby that provides an entry
off of Sachem Street, through a raised court. Great
care was taken to make the new structure harmonious
with the architectural vocabulary of the 1835 building
utilizing modern and energy efficient materials. The
lower level is clad in a warm colored stone that echoes
the brownstone foundations of the original building.
The upper walls are a stucco finish, with slate framing
at each window opening. A large overhang provides weather
protection and mirrors that on the original.
