MASTER PLAN - The master plan also calls for some off-site improvements restoring the site’s physical and symbolic connections to the city and its immediate surroundings. These connections entail: pedestrian pathways in the surrounding neighborhood, and connections to Hartford’s riverfront and the cultural and entertainment features north of the site. A newly defined traffic circle just north of the site is suggested as the “Colt Gateway” anchoring the redevelopment. The circle, topped with a monument honoring the 40 years of Elizabeth Colt’s leadership of the Colt industries, provides a visual orientation point between the site and downtown, as well as a new road spur toward the riverfront.
