SUSTAINABLE DESIGN - Energy conservation was important to client and architect, so the energy efficient form of a cube served as the basis for the design. Extensive use of glass block patterned into a grid with glazed masonry exterior walls resulted in an exterior that is both dynamic and energy efficient. The patterns of glass block and masonry for each exterior wall was determined by the orientation of each wall. The south façade is almost entirely glass block, which provides insulating qualities and allows passive solar gain during the winter and reflects the summer sun.
