SUSTAINABLE DESIGN - Middlebury College is a national leader in sustainable design initiatives in terms of both capital projects and campus life-style. This project embraced sustainable design, utilizing granite cladding quarried through an environmentally low impact process, tinted, triple-glazed curtain wall systems, and state-certified Vermont hardwoods culled from properly managed renewable forests for use inside the building, and materials that do not emit volatile organic compounds. When LaForce Hall opened, each resident received information describing the environmental features and suggestions for environmentally friendly habits to adopt on campus.
