September 21, 2001- The American Institute of Architects Connecticut
Chapter Design Award Program 2001 has chosen the SAND School in the City
of Hartford designed by Tai Soo Kim Partners.
This is one of only two projects selected for the Architecture in the
Community category and one of only 16 selected by the accomplished jury,
which included Robert Campbell, FAIA; Scott Simpson, FAIA; and Carol Burns,
AIA.
The jury commented on the skillful blend of programs, as the building
combines the local branch of the public library into the school library
with the idea that community resources would be maximized and the school
would be served by bringing adults into the learning community.
