November 1, 2001-Wesleyan's Davison Art Center will present a retrospective
of artwork by architects whose projects "have been critical to the
development of American architecture during the last 50 years," according
to Martha Anez, assistant professor of art at Wesleyan University. It will
be entitled "Abstraction and Representation: Contemporary Architectural
Drawings" will run from November 9th - December 21.
Exhibitors will include: Tai Soo Kim, Asymptote Architecture, Michael
Graves, Hariri & Hariri, Steven Holl, Ralph Johnson, Morphosis, Cesar
Pelli, Antoine Predock, Stuart Silk, Robert Stern, Tod Williams Billie
Tsien and Robert Venturi.
Tai Soo Kim is founding partner of the award-winning Hartford firm Tai
Soo Kim Partners, and a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.
Notable projects include the University of Hartford's Gray Cultural Center,
recipient of the AIA/CT Design Award and the New England Regional Council
Design Award; Middlebury Elementary School (CT), AIA Medal of Honor Award;
and the Helen and Harry Gray Court of the Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford,
that received the AIA Honor Award for Interiors, the AIA New England Design
Award and AIA/CT Design Award.
These projects embody Mr. Kim's philosophy that architecture should be
simultaneously bold and inspirational in its simplicity, and appropriate
to natural and cultural conditions.
On Thursday, November 29, 12:15 p.m. Prof. Anez will present an Art a
la Mode gallery talk about the exhibition, sponsored by the Friends of
the Davison Art Center.
