Higgins Hall and Higgins Annex
Client: Western Connecticut State University
Completion Date: 2018
Higgins Hall with its Annex is uniquely positioned as the geographic center of the midtown campus and sits directly across from the Library and adjacent to the Student Union. Built in 1949 and 1971, respectively Higgins Hall and Higgins Annex run north-south, which presents an obstacle to east-west circulation on the campus. What was once the rear of the building before the quadrangle was built, now welcomes students and visitors. TSKP STUDIO’s proposed design solution addresses the need to provide an appropriate quadrangle façade, resolve pedestrian and visual axis, improve east-west campus circulation, and improve overall accessibility within the structures. The project was phased to allow occupancy during renovation, all building systems being upgraded and interior space reprogrammed. Program includes the Dean’s Office, administrative offices and teaching spaces for Computer Science, Arts, and Communications including a TV studio and the Math Department.
