New Middle School
Client: Wooster School
Completion Date: 2004
Prior to TSKP STUDIO’s design and completion of this new two-story structure, the 120 students in grades 6-8 at this independent day school attended classes in a three-story historic cottage. The new 17,270 sq. ft. structure is designed to complement the best features of the traditional campus, with its rustic fieldstone and clapboard buildings, and was carefully sited to anchor the east end of the upper campus green. The design is based on a residential style, with a welcoming entry plaza, which serves as both outdoor social space and drop-off / pick-up area. The new structure provides general classrooms, science labs, and a computer laboratory, as well as a central Common Room which serves a variety of functions for the middle school. This common room opens onto a window-walled corridor facing the entry plaza, filling the common room with natural light.
